The service was held at the Peace Memorial site at the corner of Grange Drive and Ermin Street. There was a short parade from Grange Leisure including representatives from the Royal British Legion, Sea and Air Cadets and local ex-servicemen.
Members of the public also attended the Dedication Service, which involved local clergy including the Rt Rev'd Dr Lee Rayfield, Bishop of Swindon, Rev'd Carol Stone, Rev'd Vicky Fleming and Father Michael McAndrew. The short service included prayers and readings from Mr Martin Vandervelde, President of the Swindon Jewish Community, Her Majesty's Lord Leiutenant of Wiltshire, Mrs Sarah Troughton, the County British Legion Chair/President Mr Mike Swabey and Katherine Woodhouse (a runner-up in the local schools memorial design competition). The service also commemorated the 100 years since the start of WW1.
The memorial was originally designed by students from Ruskin Juniors School and Kingdown School, with the design being finished by Tony Currivan - Senior Architect for the Swindon Borough Council.
